Small Thing targets microplastics, particles smaller than 5 mm including polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyester fragments that escape traditional cleanup systems. Each robot identifies, collects, and quantifies these particles in real time.
Each unit operates fully autonomously during missions. They navigate, detect, and collect without remote control, sharing data through encrypted communication with the rest of the fleet. Human operators simply plan and monitor missions through the platform.
All collected materials are filtered, measured, and stored safely. Data on type, density, and location is uploaded to the global database - creating the first live map of ocean microplastic pollution. The material can then be recycled or analyzed by research partners.
Results are context-aware and high quality, but we recommend reviewing and refining for best use.
Small Thing is open to everyone - individuals, communities, and businesses. As a public user, you can enroll to follow missions in real time, sponsor clean-up zones, or access open data for education and awareness. As a business or institution, you can deploy branded missions, access detailed environmental analytics, or integrate Small Thing data into your ESG reporting. Every enrollment, large or small, helps expand the fleet — and gives the ocean another reason to breathe.
